Obituary of Wendy Sue Blackwell

It is with great sadness that the family of Wendy Blackwell announces her passing on Nov. 5, 2024, after a long and courageous fight against cancer. Wendy is survived by David, her loving husband. Cherished mother of Paul Chalmers (Julia), and Heather Chalmers (Umar). Stepmother to Shannon Blackwell and Meagan Hollinshead (Shane). Nana will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Evan (Emily), Noah, Anna (Jacob), Fiona, Savannah, and Marten and by her great grandchildren Micah, Abigail and Elizabeth. Dearly loved sister to Robert Culliton (Carolyn) of Fonthill and sister-in-law to Paul (Heather), Peter (Wendy) and Barb. Wendy was a nurse and nurse practitioner for 38 years, dedicated to caring for children and their families at Children’s Hospital in London. When she retired, she continued to support these children and families by volunteering with the Service League. In her retirement, she stayed active with curling and golf at Highland Country Club, where she had many friends. She also enjoyed reading, swimming, quilting, and playing bridge and mahjong. Together with David, she travelled all over the world and also enjoyed watching hockey as an avid fan of the Knights and the Habs. Wendy discovered mediation later in life and drew great strength from Buddhist teachings. Spending time at the cottage with the kids was among her most treasured times. Wendy was a very caring person, and her love and kindness will be greatly missed by friends and family. We would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Victoria Hospital for their professional and thoughtful care of Wendy on her final journey. Cremation and burial have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 24 at 1:30-3:30pm at Highland Country Club, 1922 Highland Heights, London.
