Donald — un vrai bon vivant!
Our family is diminished without his presence.
Bonda (my sister) truly was the love of his life, and wherever they lived, Don made a point of meeting people, and dogs in the neighbourhood. He shared his wit and wisdom, lots of gardening advice and more. Don nurtured amazingly beautiful roses in their own garden and these often appeared in his watercolor paintings, sketches and his pastel works.
Bonda; Robert, Karen and Logan;
Laura, Oz, Alex and Bronwyn......
Know that each of you are in our hearts. We send love, strength and peace in this difficult time

Hey Don! So many memories of the ones that got away. So many days waiting in an ice hut on Lake Simcoe, freezing in the Nottawasaga River with water leaking into our waders or huddling for warmth in a boat in Georgian Bay in the fall, all for the ones that got away. Sadly, we couldn’t connect on a summer fishing trip. I hope you are scouting that perfect lake to fish when we meet again and we will get that one that got away. Herb.

Don and Bonda have always been a warm and welcoming presence in our lives. When we moved into our first home, it was a happy surprise to find we were now neighbours as well. They quickly became part of the little family we began there shortly thereafter — cheering us from their front porch when we left for the hospital, and arriving with food and love when we came home with our daughter for the first time on Easter Sunday.
Don was an incredible neighbour and friend, and was like a friendly Grandpa to our daughter, Ginevra. We loved running into him while out for a walk in the neighbourhood or when he would stop by to say hello. He always had stories to tell, questions to ask and such a positive easy-going nature.
You could tell how much Don liked you by the extent to which he teased you. I remember he once commented to me on the length of our grass and how he could see it from the front window of their house. I remember replying to this: “Well, it’s just the right length to wave ‘Hello’ to you and Bonda for us when the wind blows.” We both laughed so hard that day, and we have all since wondered if when we saw him wave to us from their porch or front window, if he was just saying hello or telling us to cut our grass.
Don was interesting and always interested. He was always generous with his time and would talk about a hundred things, but never keep you too long. Being just a few houses away, we often shared in some celebrations both big and small, a few spring and summer evenings, a few meals… and each and everyone is a lovely memory we cherish. We miss him but are so profoundly happy to have known him for a short while, but most of all for the privilege of his friendship.
Our little corner of Old South will not be the same without him.
Sending our love and support to Bonda, Robert & Karen, Laura & Oz, and all the grandkids: Alex, Bronwyn and Logan.

We share a driveway with Don’s daughter and family. We have happy memories of laughs and bits of wisdom Don would impart in the driveway, back yard, or in the neighborhood. He always greeted us with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. Don was full of life and a champion of kids. He always took an interest in others. We will miss him and will remember him fondly.
