Obituary of Ruth Kathaleen Gast

Ruth Kathaleen Gast (Bray) went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Saturday the 7th day of September, 2024. Ruth was in her 87th year. Beloved wife of Roger Gast for 63 years. Loving mother to Paul (Laurie) of Strathroy and Bryan (Kathy) of Brights Grove. Proud grandmother of Jeffrey, Jillian (Kevin), Victoria, Zachary (Talia), Mathew, and Grace. Loving great grandmother to Auston, Nathaniel, and Emmett. Loving sister of Marion McGhee (Bray) of London. Predeceased by her parents, Reverend John Wesley Bray and Ethel (Lemcke) Bray and parents-in-law, Loren and Jean (Parker) Gast. Her sister Hilda (Hewgill), and brothers Stanley, Earl, Kenneth and Norm. Growing up in a large family as a Pastor’s child, Ruth learned at an early age the importance of personal faith. Ruth’s Bibles were well-read and her life has been a tremendous example to her family and all who knew her. Ruth attended Teacher’s College in Stratford. Ruth then taught in a one room school near Duntroon, south of Collingwood, for two years and then in Owen Sound for two years. Ruth captured Roger’s love and adoration from the first time they met. Her inner and outer beauty both in poise and person were admired by all who knew her and especially by Roger. Her laughter and sense of humor were captivating. Roger and Ruth were married July 8th, 1961 in Owen Sound. In 1964 they began their decades of church ministry. Cooking was her very special gift which she unselfishly shared as a gracious and loving hostess both at home and at church/camp functions. She enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing travel adventures with Roger. Ruth will be remembered and missed by her dear family and many friends. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Saturday October 5th, 2024, at 2 pm, at New Horizons church at 383 Russell Street North, Sarnia with Pastor Luke and music by Dave Randall. Ruth had requested that this time of celebration be inspirational, happy and informal with a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Doctor David Kim, and the nurses and staff at the Sarnia hospital who provided amazing care and compassion to Ruth and her family. Memorial donations may be made to Maple Grove Christian Retreat Centre (519-285-3334).
