Obituary of Harvey John Bishop

Harvey John Bishop, born May 30, 1938, near Ridgetown Ontario, son of the late Marie & Delbert Earl Bishop, passed peacefully on Sunday May 5th 2024, in his 86th year. Harvey will be greatly missed by his three daughters, Michelle Bishop (Trish), Lisette Bishop, and Linzi Bishop (Paul), and his nephew Geof (Cathy) Charlebois. Harvey always excelled in everything he did, even from a young man. From Math and the Sciences, receiving Honour's in school, joining every club and extracurricular program, including basketball, and volunteering his time to help others and/or his community. Harvey was an avid basketball player growing up and began officiating while attending Western University in London. His role as a sport referee for both able-bodied and wheelchair basketball, volleyball, soccer and rugby at all levels lasted 62 years total, attending many tournaments around the world and receiving many awards. Harvey spent the majority of his career at London Life in Computer Securities. After retiring at the age of 55, Harvey spent much of his time volunteering at the CNIB in London, refereeing, and travelling. Harvey started a Smart & Caring Community Fund through the London Community Foundation, and after many years of contributions, Harvey created the London Wheelchair Basketball Association Fund in 2014 to support the needs of players, including funding for new wheelchairs. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Village of Glendale Crossing, Glanworth Neighbourhood, who took great care of Harvey during the five years he lived there. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the London Wheelchair Basketball Association Fund care of the London Community Foundation: https://www.facebook.com/LondonWheelchairBasketball.
