Celebration of Stan's life

Obituary of Stanley James Ludlow

On October 16th, 2023, in his 91st year, Stanley (Stan) James Ludlow found peace as he passed away with family by his side at Henley Place in London, Ontario. Stan was born in Port Colborne, Ontario, the son of James and Violet Ludlow. In his early 20’s, he moved to Welland, Ontario where he worked, engaged in an active lifestyle, developed lifelong friendships and raised his family. After his retirement, he and Eileen relocated to London to be close to family and continued to build new friendships and enjoy life. To say Stan had a passion for life would be an understatement. Whether you knew him for a minute or were blessed to have spent significant time with him, he had a way of making those around him feel special. His natural curiosity led him to connect with those around him through conversation and comradery and fostered a great love for travel and adventure. His interest in meeting new people was matched only by his joy at meeting a furry friend. Stan was a great lover of animals but really, dogs were his favourite. Stan welcomed each phase of his life with kindness, humility, patience, love and always with a great sense of humour. Over the years, Stan embraced learning new hobbies and gaining new experiences. So many of his stories evolved from his time spent curling, camping, canoeing, wine-making, playing squash and cards, attending football games, time spent in the church community and in his travels around the world. His enthusiasm for any activity was contagious and inspiring. He had a love of writing, and he was well-known for his poems – especially those delivered at major life events. For almost 40 years, Stan was a loyal and proud employee of Atlas Steels where he retired in 1998 as an industrial engineer. For Stan, his greatest joy came through his immense love for his family, and his closest friends. A beloved husband and father, grandfather, brother and friend. Stan is survived by his loving wife Eileen, children Laurie (Robert) and Kevin (Cara), Rebecca and Bryson (Kriska), and his grandchildren Alexander, Nathaniel, Matthew, Emma, Anna, Meghan and Maya. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Hazel, his nieces, Susan, Nancy (Terry), Leanne, Sharon and Carole (Nick), and his nephew Jeff (Donna). Stan is predeceased by his parents, his sister Zena, his brother Colin, and niece Marion. The family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at the Henley Place Long Term Care Home for their comfort and support this last year. Stan had a positive impact on all that knew him, and his absence from this world will be strongly felt. An open-house to celebrate Stan’s life will be held on Saturday, November 4th between 1:30pm and 4:30pm at Coppola’s Banquet Facility 203 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. In Lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider making a donation in Stan’s honour to the Alzheimer Society of London and Middlesex Give Today - Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners .
