Obituary of Isabella Kerr Allingham
Allingham, Isabella Kerr (née Lynch) - Isabel died peacefully at Alexandra and Marine General Hospital in Goderich on August 12, 2023 following a long illness. Predeceased by her husbands, Ian Allingham (2011) and Jim Walter (2022), Isabel is survived by her children, Frank of Kitchener, Ian and his wife Kelly of Kincardine, and Diane and her husband Joe of Kincardine, grandchildren, Cory (Tina) Hedger, Caden (Julie), David (Katelyn), and Jared Allingham, and Alex (Stuart) Hawkins, step-granddaughter Sarah (Michael) Carneiro-Policarpo, and her great grandchildren. Isabel was born in Glasgow, Scotland on February 19, 1938. She and Ian were married in 1958 and immigrated to Canada with their children in 1967, eventually settling in Kincardine. After Ian’s retirement, they moved to the Meneset Retirement Community outside of Goderich, making many friends there. During retirement, Ian and Isabel enjoyed golf, traveling to Scotland, Ireland, and Portugal, and spending time with their grandchildren. Following Ian’s death, Isabel met Jim Walter through mutual friends at Meneset and they were married in 2015. Together, they enjoyed long drives, listening to the Scottish Pipe Bands in Goderich and Kincardine, tai chi, cribbage, and trips to Ireland and England. For the last several months of her life, Isabel lived at Harbour Hill Retirement Community with her and Jim’s beloved cats, BJ and Henri. In addition to her husbands, Isabel was predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth Lynch (née Young), her sister, Jean Irving of South Africa, her son-in-law, Jeff Hawkins, and her dear friend, Judy Sauder. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Alexandra and Marine General Hospital and University Hospital in London for their excellent care. We would particularly like to thank Kylie, Molly, and Nicole, who tended to Isabel during her final hours. Special thanks also to the wonderful staff at Harbour Hill Retirement Community for making Isabel feel so at home and for their compassionate care the last several months. At Isabel’s request, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held. As a lifelong animal lover, Isabel would appreciate a donation to a local pet charity, in lieu of flowers.
