Obituary of Bill Gerry

GERRY, William Lyle (Bill) Our Bill passed peacefully on Wednesday September 21st , age 81 years, after a long and arduous fight with cancer. He is predeceased by his sister Carol Manchester (Keith), and leaves behind his other sisters, Sandra Burt, Jacqueline Gerry and Susan Bishop (David). Bill is fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews as their playful Uncle Bull who delighted in family gatherings and lighthearted play, and of course, CharlieBear, the dog that knows a dog lover when he sees one. Bill spent his career in London in the Electrical Wholesale Supply industry where he enjoyed friendships with many colleagues and clients. Those relationships have survived to today through their Breakfast Club which Bill loved to attend. Bill spent many winters curling. Always ready to help out, Bill was an organizer of the many curling bonspiels his league held. Coming from a military family, Bill participated in the RCASC Reserves for many years. He particularly enjoyed teaching cadets to drive Army vehicles during summer training in Ipperwash. Bill was a lover of Canadian military history, and amassed a large collection of books commemorating the Canadians in WWII. After retiring, Bill spent his time sleuthing Ancestry and other sites to compose a comprehensive history of the Gerry family. While we thought we had English origins, it turns out we were Swedish. Who knew? He spent many hours helping friends with projects to fix computers and get small engines working. Bill had a generous spirit and endlessly supported his many friends and his family. There will be a private interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A celebration of Bill’s life for friends and family will be held at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, 465 Sunningdale Rd.W on Sunday, October 30th, from 2-4 pm.
