Obituary of David Duncan Urquhart

URQUHART, David Duncan David Urquhart passed away peacefully on July 13th, 2021, in his 93rd year at London University Hospital. He will be dearly missed by Mary (nee Wilson), his wife of 66 years, his children Mavis (Tony), Malcolm (Mary) and Duncan and grandchildren, Emily (Alex) and Scott. David is predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Malcom Urquhart and John Urquhart and his parents, Dr. James and Mrs. Elva Urquhart. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law, Lilian and Sheila and his nieces and nephews. David’s life was marked by his humility, strong work ethic and devotion to family and his community. During his busy 35 year career at 3M Corporation David always made time to engage in his many interests that showed his kindness, sociability and great curiosity of the world. David was an avid tennis player, who enjoyed gardening and always made certain that his backyard was filled with birds. His greatest pleasure was spending time at the family cottage, where, well into his 80’s, he was still swimming in Mirror Lake accompanied by his wife Mary. In his retirement he and Mary made many interesting trips abroad, most often organizing their travel plans and itinerary themselves. David never sought the limelight and was a true gentleman. It was his life’s goal to always ensure that others were cared for and thought of first. This extended beyond family and friends, to his everyday interactions and to the many charities to which he generously contributed. Cremation has taken place and according to David’s wishes a small family gathering honouring his memory will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be made through Ontario Cremation Service at www.ontariocremation.com. If desired, donations to London Health Sciences Centre - University Hospital, or St. Joseph Health Care London - Parkwood Institute Hospital, would be appreciated. Our very special thanks to the many caregivers and staff who attended David and who provided their support during his stay in hospital and at Oakcrossing Retirement Home.
