Obituary of Margaret Lillian Barclay

September 29, 1922 – November 9, 2019 Peg, in her 98th year passed away peacefully at Spruce Lodge, Stratford on November 9th. Mom (to us) will forever be missed for her strength of character, her love of family & home and for her beautiful smile that so many commented on. She has been a devoted mother, a terrific and at times, feisty role model and a perpetual rock for her family. She is survived by her children, Sharon, Edward, Brian and Gary (Ann) Kelly, and Brenda Douglas (Karl). She is also survived by her one remaining sibling, Emerson Martin, predeceased by husbands, Vernon Kelly (1969) and Wilfred Barclay (1998) and siblings, Kenneth Martin, Earl Martin, Jean Barnett, twin sister Marion Martin, Helen Kelly and Lois Barclay as well as her daughter Peggy Lou Ballantyne and daughter-in-law Ellen Kelly. She is also survived by dear sister-in-law Nora Martin, Sue McIntosh, Ann Streicher and son-in-law Dave Ballantyne as well as many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Special thanks to Dr. Trevail (St. Marys) and Dr. Doug Thompson (Spruce Lodge) for their compassionate and measured approach to her medical care. Also, special thanks to the caring staff at Cedarcroft Place (lower level) and more recently to the wonderfully dedicated and compassionate staff at Spruce Lodge who did their utmost to ensure Mom’s passing was “peaceful” and with “dignity”. Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes, there will be no service. A private interment in St. Marys will take place in the spring followed by a Celebration of Life gathering. If desired, a donation can be made to the Stratford Hospice, Spruce Lodge or any charity of your choice.
