Obituary of Edward Ernest Broughton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward “Ted” Broughton, in his 87th year. Ted passed away peacefully at University Hospital with family by his side on December 6, 2023. Ted will never be forgotten by those who knew him. Dear husband of Lalia (Milligan) and the late Sylvia (Campbell). Cherished father of Matt (Joelle) and Cassie Hodgins (Jeff). Proud Papa of Lindsay, Meg (Tyson), Jessie, Elyse (Adrian) and Cami. Predeceased by his sisters Ann Eyres and Mary Fox, and his brother, Peter Broughton. Lovingly known as Papa Ted, he was most proud of his family. To Papa, family and friends meant everything. He was a loving husband, supportive dad and papa. He was an avid reader and history enthusiast, took to a good crossword puzzle, loved to cook, cheered on the Blue Jays and Raptors, enjoyed singing and was always whistling a tune. He cherished his time with his grandchildren, enjoyed attending their sporting events, shared all of his wonderful stories of his life experiences, and of course spoke about his love of travelling the world. He was a good friend, and he shared many laughs and wonderful times with his bridge clubs. He loved the cottage life and the sunset on Georgian Bay. Ted had a way of making people feel good, and had an infectious laugh and a clever sense of humour. He truly was one in a million. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate the life of our dear dad and papa. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to First Light Home Care personal support workers, Cordelie and Emeka, for their exceptional support over the past year, and extend a very special thank you to Wendy and her team at University Hospital for their attentive care and compassion.
