Obituary of Brian Carey

Brian Carey July 18, 1948 - July 13, 2026 Brian said, “If anyone asks, tell them I’m off to join the circus!” Less than a month after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, Brian Carey died in the early morning of Monday, July 13, with Kathy by his side - as always. Kathy and Brian were married for 55 adventurous years and travelled the world together. Bri was a proud Western graduate who retired from a large accounting firm in downtown London, never admitting to being a “G” man. His passions in life included playing hockey and following the HABS, live theatre, photography, music from the Beatles to Broadway, Greek food, pie, chocolate, ice cream, and chocolate ice cream. He made new friends everywhere, particularly through volunteering with the Grand Theatre, Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, United Way, Community Living, the UWO Foot Patrol and many other organizations over the years. Brian loved to hike, completing all 890 km of the Bruce Trail. He travelled to the Netherlands nine times to complete the Nijmegen 4 Days Walk of the World (40 km/day), he lost his glasses in the Samaria Gorge in Crete, and recently, in June, hiked a levada in Madeira. He was an avid collector of coins, stamps, Harry Potter wands and Lego sets, and all things Christmas. He was a big fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Charlie Brown, Monty Python, and Kathy. Brian was predeceased by his parents Don and Verda (Wettlaufer) Carey, and leaves his brothers Bradley, Broderick (Catherine), Barton (Esther), and his favourite sister Deb (Max) Stacey, who shared a birthday with Brian. His Taylor family included Kathy’s siblings Loraine (Bob) d. Engel, Eleaner (Dave) Noon, Karen d. (Bill) Waters, Larry (Linda Michielsens) Taylor and Brenda (Rod Lorimer) Taylor. Brian was a terrific uncle and great-uncle to scads of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He and Kathy are also forever grateful for their special relationship with their pseudo-son, David Camilleri. Cremation has taken place, as per Brian’s wishes. He didn’t want a celebration of life, so we’ll do that every day, and instead we’ll bring the circus back to town.
