Obituary of Hazel Elizabeth Le Maire

Hazel Elizabeth Le Maire (née Cormack) passed away peacefully at home on March 16, in her 100th year. Liz lived a long and full life, with many accomplishments. Born in Canada to Scottish parents, she graduated from the University of Toronto with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology and was the first female field biologist with the Fisheries Research Board of Canada. She also worked as an assistant to Betty Oliphant during the founding years of the National Ballet of Canada. Liz moved to London in the 1950’s, married her husband Hugh and raised her family. She enjoyed volunteering her time and was a leader with the Girl Guides for many years. Liz was very creative, an accomplished watercolour artist and proficient in a wide variety of arts and crafts, especially knitting. She loved to learn new skills and share her creations. Liz was predeceased by her beloved husband Hugh in 2013. She will be dearly missed by her children Renée and Robert (Bonnie) and her grandchildren Alex and Victoria. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
