Obituary of Martin James Frew
Martin’s life began in Prestwick, Scotland on July 18th 1961. As a young boy he travelled across Britain and Europe due to his father’s career in the Royal Airforce. When the family wasn’t travelling Martin’s home base in Scotland was the town of Hamilton, where he enjoyed time with his grandparents and cousins. In 1972 Martin, along with his family, emigrated to Canada.
As a passionate writer of poetry, Martin gained appreciation and recognition for his work. He had a love for music and a fascination with history, especially anything to do with World War II, and often impressed everyone with his unique sense of style. Martin was best known and loved for his appreciation of the unusual, incredibly quick wit, great sense of humour, selfless heart and steadfast love for his family and homeland. From a young age Martin lived by the beat of his own drum and enjoyed bucking many of the normal conventions, often landing him in trouble which he had an uncanny knack for wiggling out of because of his endearing nature.
Martin was much loved by his late wife Christine and his children. Sadly, on Thursday, June 5th, 2025 Martin passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his children, family, and lifelong friend and brother-in-spirit, John. Martin is survived by his three children, Jamie, Kayleigh and Corey, and his four grandchildren, Sarah, Jasmine, Leah and Naomi, as well as his three sisters, Lesley, Aileen and Christine and his cousins in Britain and the United States.
The Frew family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Stack and Dr. Hamilton, as well as Vinish Baby and the entire palliative team that aided Martin in his long battle, and allowed him to do so from the comfort of his castle. Though he will be greatly missed, Martin is now at peace with his wife, Christine, and reunited with his parents, Jim and Janet Frew.
“Du er løyst frå banda som batt deg.”
“You are free from the bonds that bound you.”
